If you've ever wanted to quickly browse your RBBS callers log file,
without having to log into RBBS, this will be a helpful utility for you.
The first release, from just a few days ago, loaded the callers file
into memory, only if it fit, and from earliest record to the latest
record.
This second release has been enhanced. It will now, by default, load
the last 500 records into memory in LIFO order (a much more logical
Callers log display order) and still allow full scrolling and searching.
The new technique allows the program to be run in any size partition on
even small multi-tasking systems, and the 500 record default will
display in 64K, though even less memory will still allow a display.
Record numbers are automatically on, but may be toggled off, within the
display. If the full file is needed in the display, the "-a" switch
will display all of the file (in LIFO order) that will fit into
available memory. This is where a small speed penalty is paid; the LIFO
ordering is time consuming! Still, the ability to do searches in the
file is often worth the minute wait (depending upon machine speed).
Usage: vc [-a] file...
Where file is the name, list, or wildcard, for RBBS 17.x CALLERS files,
or a combination, and where -a turns on the "ALL RECORDS" display.
Press "H" or "?" for a help panel which explains the paging and searching
options, and a few other options.
In appreciation of all the work done by all the developers and testers of
RBBS-PC, free license is granted for use of this program by all RBBS sysops.
Please notify me about any problems or suggestions at either of my Net
addresses or directly at the DataFlex.HST RBBS.
